A healthy, fresh and glowing complexion should be a part of every girl’s beauty wish list. However, hydrated and radiant skin is sometimes difficult to achieve with environmental factors like sun exposure and dehydration gumming up the works. Have no fear, Ami is here and I’ve found a beautiful solution! The secret is glo minerals’ Sheer Tint Illuminator. It’s the perfect way to achieve youthful, luminous skin without looking artificial. Its pearly pink color and lightweight consistency can be applied underneath any foundation or mixed with Protective Liquid Foundation, Sheer Tint Base or Face Primer for a natural glow. Are glo minerals’ Products Gluten-Free?
The author of this post is a member of the gloProfessional Digital Commerce and Media Team and was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in January 2010.
As someone who has been gluten-free for two and a half years, let me take a minute and tell you why I am gluten-free and why it’s an important topic for a beauty company to discuss.
The year after I graduated college I started to feel increasingly sick and couldn’t figure out why. Not only did I start to get large dry spots resembling eczema all over my skin, I became incredibly ill after each and every meal. In addition I suffered from severe headaches and dizzy spells in the afternoon. I started skipping meals and avoiding certain social functions in fear that I would get sick in the middle of the event. It started to not only affect my eating habits, but my relationships, job and social life. A friend suggested I see an allergist because he thought I might be lactose intolerant. Instead, my bloodwork showed that I have Celiac Disease which requires a completely gluten-free diet (more about Celiac Disease and living gluten-free).
Even though “gluten- free” is the current buzzword in dietary, medical and celebrity fitness circles, there are people whose health depends on finding gluten-free products they can trust. We receive several questions a week asking if glo minerals’ products are gluten-free. As someone who takes this very seriously I can give you the current rundown.
Are glo minerals’ products gluten-free?
glo minerals’ products are gluten-free with the following exceptions:
Face Primer - contains Hordeum Distichon (Barley) Extract to help retain moisture and provide anti-oxidants to help soothe and calm skin.
Lip Filler Pencil- Contains Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein which contains properties for improved lip hydration and moisture content.
Moisturizing Body Wash- Contains Wheat Amino Acids to condition and increases skin’s moisture retention.
Smoothing Salt Scrub- Contains Wheatgerm Oil to increase moisture.
**New Addition:Precise Micro Lipliner**
How does gloProfessional avoid cross-contamination?
Our glo minerals facility has strict standard operating procedures and all necessary precautions are made to avoid cross contamination. This includes cleaning and sanitizing the equipment on the line between each and every batch. While our manufacturers do their best to avoid cross contamination, gloProfessional can’t 100% guarantee that it never happens since it is not a gluten-free facility. I can say that I have never personally had an issue using the products.
Many people with gluten sensitivities are conscious about gluten in their diets but it really must be removed from all products they come into contact with in their daily lives. Immediately after going gluten-free my symptoms disappeared. It’s been more than 2 years sans gluten and I haven’t looked back.
If you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to ask us on our facebook page or on twitter.

Back to School: Wearing Makeup with Glasses
I have a soft spot for school supplies. There is nothing like walking into a store to find a whole section dedicated to back to school! The beginning of each school year is a great time to re-create yourself or add new routines to your current one. A question I get a lot is how to wear makeup when you also wear glasses. So, here is your back to school makeup tip!
Take a look at your glasses. How wide are they, how much of your face and eyes do they cover? Are the rims thin or thick? You can base your makeup look off the style of your glasses. If you wear thin, delicately-rimmed glasses focus on liner, and brows. Use the Precise Micro Eyeliner in black to emphasize your eyes, lining both top and bottom as well as your water line. Keep the lines thin and close to the lash line. If you do too thick of a line your eyes could get lost. Keep your lids natural using an Eye Shadow in diamond or bamboo on the entire lid. Add a little twig or dusk to the crease and highlight with twinkle or haze to keep it very light and natural. Next, focus on giving your brows a bold look to balance the delicacy of your glasses while also balancing your overall look. When it comes to the rest of your face, give your cheek bones a lift by highlighting them with a shimmery light toned blush. I love Blush in nectar or paradise and keep the color high up on your cheeks! If you want to add a pop to your lips go for it! No rules there!
If you wear a thicker rim that covers your brows and touches right underneath your eye socket (base of your cheek) you can rock a number of different looks. These types of glasses will only magnify what you put on! Try a kitten eye (a step down and more natural version of the cat eye) keeping the wing just outside the end of your upper lash line or try a daytime smoky eye using the Metallic Smoky Eye Kit. If your brows really don’t show over the rim of your glasses, don’t worry about filling them in but if a little bit of them peek out then give them some definition. I suggest using a bright or rich color on your lips to bring a balance to your look overall. A red Lipstick in vixen or burgundy Lipstick in aubergine would be a great shade to try. Give balance to your face when wearing heavy-rimmed glasses by pulling focus to another part of your face is a great tip! Have your lips do the talking.
Now embrace your new studious look and enjoy the fall!

Q&A with Kate McCarthy: Finding Inspiration
Kate: Great question! I find inspiration on a daily bases from my gossip mags and IMDB.com. Right now and forever though I would have to say Anne Hathaway. She is always so elegant and classy with a sassy personality that always shines through her look! Plus she’s funny. Anne is such a timeless beauty and has a rare chameleon quality about her.
I am also loving Carey Mulligan right now. She has a unique beauty and the acting chops of a veteran even though she is so young. Carey and Kate Winslet both have this old Hollywood beauty and I love that they both can pull off a look from any era and fit right in.
If I had to choose an icon….hmmm…. I would have to go with Audrey Hepburn. Her beauty was so delicate, girly and classic. I also love looking at Andy Warhol paintings to find inspiration. The colors used are so exciting and unexpected. I feel like beauty should be just that, unexpected; exciting to look at and found in all forms!

Product Review: Metallic Smoky Eye Kit
glo minerals Metallic Smoky Eye Kit is a versatile and easy to use product with endless options. As one of our most loved products, this kit can create a soft look for the office, a smoldering evening look, and everything in between. The kit includes four gorgeous colors perfect for creating this season’s natural smoky eye look. The earthy and metallic shades come in a sleek, mirrored compact that also includes an easy five step application guide. As a go-to product for our team, we can’t say enough about this kit but don’t just take our word for it! Read what others have to say:

“I have blue eyes and I love these shades! They go on really well and the step-by-step guide takes the mystery out of applying a smoky eye. I recommend getting it with the smudge brush to make it even easier.” - Jessica, Review on Website
“These eyeshadows give the look that brings compliments. I just love the softness of the products and the effects of a natural look. It can also be very dramatic.” Beverly, Pinterest
Plus, with every order of a Metallic Smoky Eye Kit you get a free mini lid primer (details below)! Lid primer is important because it prevents oil from interfering with your shadow application, allowing for more vibrant eye shadow color and longer lasting eye makeup. Use the Smudge Brush to blend and contour to help create a smoky effect.
Kate McCarthy’s Beauty Passport: India
I have always been interested in the beauty routines and traditions of other countries and cultures. In this series, I’m going to explore the world of beauty. First stop is India!
The Indian culture has long been a fascination of mine. Everything from the bright colors, intricate saris, wonderful spices (I may or may not have a strong addiction to curry), Bollywood and dance to the Indian people’s love of cows (they are viewed as a symbol of non-violence) and elephants (a symbol of luck, prosperity and joy). Beauty is seen as both outward and inward in the Indian culture, meaning one can be beautiful on the outside, but if he or she does not practice goodness on the inside, the outer beauty is thwarted. I love that beauty is seen as more of a spiritual quality than a physical one, but of course makeup can play a big role in expressing inner beauty.
I’ve had the privilege of working with a handful of Indian brides and each time I do, I am so excited not only to see how the bride wants her makeup done, but also to witness the tradition that comes along with it. The saying the “eyes are the window to the soul” holds such truth with Indian culture. The weddings I have worked always focus on the eye makeup. The actual shadow colors tend to be in neutral golds, and shimmery bronzes but the drama comes from the liner. Kajal (Kohl) liner is an ancient tradition in Indian beauty. It is applied around the edges of the eyes. Kajal cools the eyes and it is believed that it protects the eyes from the sun. Some women also add a dot of kajal on the left side of the foreheads or on the waterline of the eye to protect them from 'buri nazar.’ 'Buri nazar' literally means 'bad glance' and is comparable to the evil eye. I love bringing emphasis to the eyes using kohl liner. I add it to the upper and lower lash lines, and the water line (tight-lining) which gives a great sharp and sultry effect. I also love playing up the cheek color. The rich caramel undertone of many Indian women’s skin is the perfect palette for bright colors. I love using guava and plumeria Cream Blushes on my Indian brides. The brightness and pop of color added to the complexion is jaw dropping-ly gorgeous.
The other part of Indian tradition that I love is the jewelry starting with the bindi. Traditionally, the area between the eyebrows (where the bindi is placed) is said to be the sixth chakra, ajna, the seat of "concealed wisdom." The bindi is said to retain energy and strengthen concentration. It is also said to protect against demons or bad luck. The bindi also represents the third eye. Followed by the maang teeka (a hair accessory worn down the center part of the head) the nath (nose ring), bajuband (armlets), choodiyan (bangles), bichiya (toe rings) karmarband (waste band), and haar (necklace) all sitting on top of a red sari shows such a decadent form of beauty and tradition.
The world of bridal beauty in Indian culture is just the beginning! Bollywood and dance are also huge when it comes to beauty trends rooted in tradition. I think one of my favorite movies from Bollywood is from the ’70s. It is called Sholay (if you are in an adventurous movie watching mood, I recommend it!) In it, the Holi festival is highlighted. Holi is a spring festival which traditionally celebrates the triumph of good over evil. The main day of this Hindu celebration is celebrated by both the rich and poor as a time to come together and exchange goodwill toward one another. The way this is done is the best part! Days before the celebration, the markets are flooded with a vast array of differently-colored powders. These powders are mixed with water, put in spray bottles, water balloons or are left as is and smeared onto participants’ faces, clothes and hair. If ever I need some inspiration as an artist, I check out pictures from the festival. The colors are so bright and vibrant they always get me excited to go do make up!
I hope you enjoyed your first beauty passport. Incorporate this into your everyday beauty routine by focusing on your eyes. Make them inviting by lining the inner rim with black liner. Use as much color as you want while keeping it balanced and draw inspiration from Holi by looking for bright purples (Cream Blush in plumeria) and rich teals (Eye Shadow in mermaid ) to channel a fun, colorful look that welcomes goodwill!

Use as much color as you want while keeping it balanced and draw inspiration from Holi by looking for bright purples (Cream Blush in plumeria) and rich teals (Eye Shadow in mermaid ) to channel a fun, colorful look that welcomes goodwill!
